Medhini Group Speaks at JS-SEZ Forum 2026 on Digital Economy and Smart Manufacturing

Medhini Group’s Founder and CEO, Joel William, was invited to speak at the Digital Economy & Smart Manufacturing session during the JS-SEZ Forum 2026. Representing both the Johor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JICCI) and Medhini Group, he addressed key themes around automation, digitalisation, and cross-border manufacturing collaboration between Canada and Malaysia.

The forum, organised by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CanCham Malaysia) and supported by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Invest Johor, and the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), aimed to strengthen Canada–Malaysia collaboration and position Johor—through the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ)—as a strategic destination for advanced manufacturing investment.

Key Insights from the Session

Automation Density as a Competitiveness Indicator
Canada currently operates at approximately 225 robots per 10,000 workers, while Malaysia’s automation density remains significantly lower despite strong ambitions under the National Robotics Roadmap. Joel highlighted that this gap represents opportunity rather than limitation, emphasising that increasing automation density must be central to Johor’s strategy for higher-value, higher-wage manufacturing.

From Policy to Execution at Scale
With rapid data centre expansion and strong cross-border integration with Singapore, Johor’s infrastructure foundation is firmly in place. The challenge now lies in coordinated execution and scaling adoption across industries—moving beyond pilot projects to full-scale implementation.

Digital Twin as Risk Mitigation
With abundant processing power being deployed locally, manufacturers in Johor can increasingly adopt digital twin environments to simulate operations, utilities, and production lines before physical implementation. This approach reduces operational risk, improves precision, and enhances resilience in an increasingly automated ecosystem.

Opportunities for Technology Providers

The forum identified several tangible opportunities for Canadian technology providers and investors looking to enter the ASEAN market through Johor, including industrial AI and analytics, robotics and automation systems, cybersecurity, energy-efficient infrastructure, and advanced modelling and simulation tools.

Johor offers a live deployment environment integrated with Singapore and scalable across ASEAN—positioning the region at the forefront of computational manufacturing at scale.

Medhini Group remains committed to supporting the growth of smart manufacturing in Malaysia and looks forward to building the next generation of intelligent, resilient manufacturing ecosystems.
